Villondi Teertham Rameshwaram Address: Kochi - Dhanushkodi Rd, Tamil Nadu, 623529, India
Situated amid the vast spread of sea water, Villondi Tirtham, a sweet water pond, is definitely a place worth visiting. Anyone on their tour to Rameshwaram must take some time out and visit this holy place. It is located on the way to Pamban. From Ramanathaswamy Temple it is about 7 km away.
Dedicated to Lord Rama, this theertham also has legend behind it which is associated with the Hindu epic Ramayana. According to the legend, it was where Lord Rama had buried his bow and arrow. Hence the place is named as Villondi, which means buried bow. It is also said that before burying the bow, Lord Rama had dhipped his arrow into the sea to get sweetwater as to quench Goddess Sita’s thirst.
The term Villondi means 'buried bow' and is believed to be the same spot where Lord Rama buried his bow. Before burying the bow, Lord Rama hit an arrow in the sea for quenching the thirst of His wife, Sita.
There is a platform that runs into the sea till the holy well. The water is mysteriously sweet and pure in spite of having salt sea water all around. Devotees come here and take a sip of the holy water.
